Basic Concepts of Medical Instrumentation
نویسنده
چکیده
The invention, prototype design, product development, clinical testing, regulatory approval, manufacturing, marketing, and sale of a new medical instrument add up to a complex, expensive, and lengthy process. Very few new ideas survive the practical requirements, human barriers, and inevitable setbacks of this arduous process. Usually there is one person who is the ‘‘champion’’ of a truly new medical instrument or device. This person—who is not necessarily the inventor—must have a clear vision of the final new product and exactly how it will be used. Most importantly, this person must have the commitment and persistence to overcome unexpected technical problems, convince the naysayers, and cope with the bureaucratic apparatus that is genuinely needed to protect patients. One of five inventors’ stories from New Medical Devices: Invention, Development and Use (Eckelman, 1988) is reprinted here to illustrate this process. The automated biochemical analyzer uses spectrophotometric methods in a continuous-flow system to measure the amount of many clinically important substances in blood or urine samples (Section 11.2).

Monitoring of Cheragh-veis Dam During Construction Using Instrumentation Data and Investigation of dam behavior during impounding
One of the most important challenges in development projects beside designing and performing them is to control immunity and stability of the several parts during different stages of construction, impoundment, and operation. The main purpose of instrumentation in dams is to evaluate operation and reaction of these structures under different load conditions, developing a better understanding...
متن کاملElectrokinetics and soil decontamination: concepts and overview
Electrokinetic decontamination and extraction have been proven to be one of the most viable, cost effective and emerging techniques in removing contaminants, especially heavy metals from soils for about last five decades. Basic concepts and an overview of the electrokinetic extraction processes and their potential applications in geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering have been reviewed ...

Abstract Background & Aim : This study was aimed to compare the instrumentation time and the amount of debris extruded apically during root canal preparation using hand files ,Mtwo rotary system and endodontic handpiece in primary molar teeth. Method & Material : In this experimental study, sixty roots of primary molars of human teeth were assigned to three groups (for each group, n=20). The...
متن کاملUsing Virtual Instrumentation to Develop a Modern Biomedical Engineering Laboratory*
This paper describes the development of a variety of classical biomedical experiments, particularly for use in a teaching laboratory. Several lab projects are described covering topics from basic electrophysiology to cardiovascular hemodynamics. The common thread through all of these experiments is their PC-based nature, all of them being automated using LabVIEW or BioBench software from Nation...
متن کاملEarly Results of Oxford Mobile Bearing Medial Unicompartmental Knee Replacement (UKR) with the Microplasty Instrumentation: An Indian Experience
Background: Oxford medial unicompartmental knee replacement (UKR) is indicated in patients with anteromedialosteoarthritis (AMOA) of the knee. Microplasty (MP) instrumentation was introduced in 2012 as an improvement overphase 3 instrumentation. Advantages of this instrumentation include conservative tibial cut, decreased tibial re-cut rateand improved component alignment. We report the results...
